Potion Master

Description

Potion Master 3D is a simulation hypercasual game in which players can brew potions and see its effect on the customers. This game contains 20 levels including various minigames.

Responsibilities

  • Designed core gameplay loop and game mechanics
  • Designed 20+ levels using mathematical formulas
  • Wrote 20+ narratives for levels
  • Designed and balanced in-game economy including in-game shop, minigames, and rewards using excel
  • Designed and balanced monetization strategies including rewarded videos, interstitial ads using Game Analytics reports
  • Wrote 5+ ad scenarios
  • Play tested regularly after each milestone and documented bug and steps to reproduce

Design Process

Project Goal:

Designing a mobile game with the theme of potion craft which was inspired by Potion Craft: Alchemist Simulator

Constraints:

  • Appeal to a large audience
  • Focus on catchy game mechanics and funny narratives

Design Intentions:

Thorough iterative design process, a list of appealing and engaging game mechanics were extracted including mortar and pestle.
Over time, many creative brainstorming sessions were held to come up with funny narratives and content such as minigames and shop,

Iterations and Challenges:

  • At first the game consisted of only mortar and pestle stage, which was successful in CPI test but in order to retain players and boost retention, more content was required. Since our resources were limited, it was important to come up with contents and game mechanics that were engaging and yet similar to craft and develop.
  • The mortar and pestle mechanic had a difficult control of drag and drop while smashing using taps which was engaging but hard to control with one hand in a mobile game. This control was simplified to swipes to improve user experience.
  • At first enemies could not shoot the player. After a couple of iterations it was evident that the gameplay was not frustrating enough. Therefore, 6 enemy variations were designed with unique move sets, animations, and HP and damage to ensure the frustrating gameplay and diversity.
